  1. Dear Software Developer;

  3. To install, launch the installer application.  Click the "Install" button.  
  4. Find and choose your copy of MPW or THINK C.  The installer will copy the 
  5. appropriate WDEF and some supporting resources to the resource fork of the 
  6. chosen file.  To remove, click the remove button.
  7.  
  8. To use, click on either icon (they'll be in the titlebar of your source 
  9. code window).  To get access to whatever xPops are installed, hold down the 
  10. command key while clicking.  To sort the list of function names 
  11. alphabetically, hold down the shift key while clicking.
  12.  
  13. We're pretty sure that you'll soon find it an indespensible part of your 
  14. programming environment.  We're so sure that you'll like it, we guarantee 
  15. it.  If you find at any time that you can live without it, let 
  16. us know and we'll refund your money.

  18. We're relying on word-of-mouth to promote this utility, we've kept the price 
  19. low, we're giving you the unusual guarantee, and we've sent you a high-quality 
  20. diskette.   In return for this, we ask that you tell everyone you know that 
  21. they need PUF, and give them our address instead of a copy of PUF.

  23. You can also give them a copy of the application "PopUpFuncs Demo".  It installs
  24. a moderately crippled version of PUF which will stop parsing after 15-20 uses.
  25. Relaunching the application will give the user another 15-20 uses.  It's incredibly
  26. easy to circumvent the code that implements the crippling, our point wasn't to
  27. show that we know how to do copy-protection.  Our point was to show the potential
  28. purchaser just how quickly 20 uses goes by.

  34. add the sales tax (7.5% if we ship to Alameda County, 6.5% otherwise).

  45. Warnings and Errata
  46. -------------------
  47. The MPW version works with MPW versions 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2b1-3.2b8.  It is known 
  48. to NOT WORK on earlier shell versions. 
  49.  
  50. The toolbox trap PopUpMenuSelect does funny things when you try to display 
  51. a popup near the top of the screen of an alternate monitor (that is, a 
  52. monitor without the menubar on it).  You'll see this if you place a window 
  53. at the top of your alternate monitor and then invoke PUF.  This is a 
  54. cosmetic bug, as far as we can tell.

  56. The C parser doesn't like some forms of C++ operator-overloading.  This 
  57. will be dealt with in a future version.
  58.  
  59. Not all the details described in the xPop internals document have been 
  60. implemented.  Developers interested in writing their own xPops should 
  61. contact us.  We designed the interface according to our own projected 
  62. needs and are interested in getting feedback from developers concerning 
  63. any needs we didn't anticipate.

  65. Installing to an application which is in an AppleShare folder to which you 
  66. don't have write permission will cause the Installer to hang.

  70. If you find the PopUpFuncs can't parse a file, or gets partway then seems 
  71. to ignore the remaining functions, please send us a copy of the file.  Most
  72. bugs can be fixed in a few hours if we have the offending file.  If your 
  73. source code is too sensitive to release, just use the "Source Masher" utility 
  74. to convert your code into a less sensitive form.
